Introducing the OECD Artificial Intelligence Policy Observatory

OECD has set up an Artificial Intelligence Policy Observatory. They have created a platform which has several sections among which:

• Trends & data overview: OECD.AI compares policy responses and provides data and metrics on AI to inform policy - Keeping abreast of developments and trends in a rapidly evolving field like AI is a critical yet challenging endeavour. Measurement work on AI development and adoption is taking place across the OECD in areas that include AI-related scientific publications, R&D funding, patents, open-source software, private equity investments in AI start-ups and more. Along with many partner institutions, the OECD is also beginning work to develop a 

  broad common understanding

   of what is AI for measurement purposes. The goal of this work is to take stock of existing approaches to classify and quantify AI and work towards a broad agreement on an approach to quantify AI consistently across domains.

• Countries & initiatives overview: This section provides an interactive database of AI policies and initiatives from countries, territories and other stakeholders to facilitate international co-operation, benchmarking and help develop best practices.

• OECD AI Principles overview: The OECD AI Principles promote use of AI that is innovative and trustworthy and that respects human rights and democratic values. Adopted in May 2019, they set standards for AI that are practical and flexible enough to stand the test of time.

• Policy areas overview: AI is a new general-purpose technology that will impact every field of public policy. Here is the latest AI policy research taking place in different policy communities across the OECD and beyond.
