Digitalization WG January 24
During the Digitalization WG on Friday, January 24, Dr. Sascha Eichstädt from PTB and Dr. Thomas Engel from Siemens AG presented on digital quality infrastructure.
Dr. Eichstädt’s presentation stressed that the digital future depends on AI, automated quality management, and the digital product passport, among others, as there is a need for digitalization with traceability mechanisms. He explained that digital certificates are based on ways to formulate calibration certificates. The resulting measurement data needs to be given in a readable, understandable way that can be combined with other datasets. Process digitalization at the lowest level involves changing a paper document to a PDF format. Taking it one step further would be to use software. He said the Digital Product Passport (DPP) is a way of processing digitalization in the quality infrastructure. Currently, digital transformation and quality infrastructure is being done on the national level, but it should be done collaboratively.
Dr. Engel presented on the digitalization of the calibration process. He spoke on the GEMIMEG-II Project, the industry and digital qualify infrastructures, and the impact and benefits of the digitalization of the quality infrastructure. He explained how data is stored and transferred within the GEMIMEG-II Project, an initiative by the German Ministry of Economic affairs and Energy that focuses on digitalization in metrology to advance the transfer of digital technologies to the economy and society. Dr. Engel highlighted that industry and the digital quality infrastructure is in need of standardizing documents, precise metrological units, and seamless interoperability across company borders. These aspects will increase customer value and process value.
We thank our invited guests and WG Members for the very informative presentations, valuable insights and discussions, and we look forward to future collaboration opportunities.
