The 4E+C Chairpersons' meeting was hosted by EA in Paris on June 30, 2010

The 4E+C Chairpersons' meeting was hosted by EA in Paris on June 30, 2010. Martine Blum and Daniel Pierre represented EA, as Steve Ellison - EURACHEM, Maguelonne Chambon and Leslie Pendrill - EURAMET, Hugo Eberhardt and Drewin Nieuwenhuis - CEOC Intl and Jean-Marc Aublant, Jean-Luc Laurent and Jiri Sobola - EUROLAB.
 
The new Terms of Reference of PLG have been approved so far and a tentative workplan has been requested for comment and approval by the 4E+C chairpersons via electronic consultation. Additional topics have been discusssed such as Revision of standards of the ISO 17000 series, Cross frontier accreditation, EA Policy for relation with stakeholders, Assessment of notified bodies and Market surveillance.
 
Outcomes and recommendations have been forwarded to respective committees such as EA AB, PLG, EA Laboratory committee, for clarification and technical follow up. It concerns, inter alia :  
  • Accreditation of notified bodies
  • Harmonization of practices when accrediting with flexible scope (definition and guidelines, collating and dissemination of good and bad examples/practices)
  • Promotion and acceptance of the EA MLA (joint statement on accreditation reliability)
  • Independance and conflict of interest when accreditation bodies with a monopoly position carry out activities,e.g. PTs, ILCs, RMs, certification, etc.
The next 4E+C Chairpersons' meeting is scheduled to be hosted by CEOC Intl on February 16, 2011 in Brussels.

Reference to ISO 9001 on accreditation certificates - IAF-ILAC-ISO Communiqué
The Communique of ISO, ILAC and IAF describing the relation between the quality management system required by ISO 17025 and its relation to ISO 9001 has beensigned. It gives accredited laboratories the opportunity to inform their customers, that their QM-system also fulfils the principles of ISO 9001:2000.
